Patriots Insiders Make Bold A.J. Brown Prediction After Romeo Doubs Signing

The New England Patriots made a big move for a wide receiver on Tuesday. Unfortunately, it wasn't the one most Patriots fans were hoping for.

After passing on Alec Pierce, New England reportedly agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal with veteran wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

While Doubs has been a good, steady receiver for the Green Bay Packers over the last four years, he's neither a star nor a WR1. He's never reached 750 receiving yards or double-digit touchdowns in a season, failing to stand out in the Packers' crowded receiver room.

Doubs is a solid piece who helps replace Stefon Diggs, but he's not a stud. Fortunately, several Patriots insiders think the team could still be in the mix for A.J. Brown.

After the Doubs news broke on Tuesday, team reporters Andrew Callahan and Mike Giardi both predicted that New England will trade for Brown this offseason.

"I predict that it will [happen] 'cause there's a long window here," Callahan said.

"I think a lot of people around the league feel exactly like we do, that AJ Brown is gonna end up in Foxboro," Giardi agreed.

There's still a lot of offseason left, so time will tell if the Patriots can swing a trade for the Philadelphia Eagles star. If they do, Doubs profiles as a nice WR2.

If not, however, New England may be disappointed if it's relying on Doubs to get 1,000 yards and lead the team's receiving corps.
