Chelsea are “in the mix” to sign Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that the Blues have joined the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in scouting the Swiss international.

Manzambi is only 20 years of age, but he has impressed with his performances for both club and country over the last twelve months.

The dynamic midfielder has played an important role in helping Freiburg in their quest to secure a top-half finish in the Bundesliga.

Manzambi has scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for the German club.

At international level, he has already picked up 8 senior caps for Switzerland, having scored 3 times, including one on his full debut against the United States in a friendly last summer.

Manzambi can play in multiple roles

Although Freiburg have ostensbly used him as a no.8 this campaign, he has also been deployed as a holding midfielder and a no.10.

For his country, Switzerland boss Murat Yakin has actually selected Manzambi as a winger, which demonstrates his wide-ranging attributes.

Of course, he is still relatively raw, and interested teams will have to decide whether he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League. Buy a Chelsea shirt from the official Nike store here.

Chelsea would have to pay a substantial sum

TEAMtalk report that Freiburg are aware that they have a very talented player on their hands, and the growing interest from clubs has prompted them to set a sizeable asking price.

It is believed that it may take upwards of €50m (£43m) to snap up Manzambi. While the Blues have not been averse to shelling out high sums on young players, it remains to be seen if they would be willing to spend that much on the young Swiss star.
