Eagles-Vikings trade rumor could lead to deal after failed Trey Hendrickson pursuit

The Philadelphia Eagles were reportedly involved in talks about signing star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.

But with Hendrickson reportedly having signed with the Baltimore Ravens, the Eagles could pivot to a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Eagles have engaged in trade talks with the Vikings for edge rusher Jonathan Greenard.

"The Philadelphia Eagles have had lines in to both Trey Hendrickson’s camp as well as Minnesota regarding Jonathan Greenard. We’ll see what Howie Roseman decides to do after the Ravens take Hendrickson off the board," Russini reported.

Greenard has been the subject of trade rumors since last week.

While Minnesota does want to keep Greenard, a tough salary cap situation could force their hand, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Adding to that, Greenard is also looking for a raise, which would only make keeping him even more difficult for Minnesota.

A former Pro Bowler, Greenard had a down season in 2024 that saw him tally three sacks while missing five games due to injury. However, in the two years prior, Greenard posted 24.5 sacks, including a career-high 12.5 in 2023.

The Eagles have a desperate need along the edge.

Entering the offseason, they needed to sign at least two, but one of their in-house options, Jaelan Phillips, has departed for the Carolina Panthers.

It remains to be seen if Brandon Graham will return instead of going back to retirement, but even if he's back the Eagles need more help.

With Hendrickson off the board, we would expect the Eagles to seriously consider a trade for Greenard, and it's possible that deal could materialize sooner rather than later.
