Baltimore Ravens pivot to Trey Hendrickson after backing out of Maxx Crosby trade

Late Tuesday night, the Baltimore Ravens shocked the NFL world by backing out of their agreed trade for Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby. While the Ravens themselves did not release a statement, the Raiders posted on social media that Baltimore had backed out of the trade.

The decision sent shockwaves through the NFL, as many teams that had been interested in Crosby had already reached free agency agreements with other players. This included Las Vegas itself, who dedicated nearly $100 million to free agency after agreeing to trade Crosby.

In the end, though, the Raiders said they would honor their free agency agreements, and Crosby is willing to move forward with Las Vegas, focusing on playing for them in 2026.

As for Baltimore, well, they just pivoted to the biggest free agent on the market.

This morning, it was reported that the Ravens had agreed to a contract with free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson:

It is a four-year contract worth $112 million, which means he will make less than the $30-40 million he was rumored to be seeking.

However, signing with the Ravens does ensure that he will stay in the AFC North, where he will face his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals twice a year.

Hendrickson only played in seven games last season and accumulated four sacks. In the two years prior, though, he had 17.5 sacks in each season, and was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2024. He was also the runner up in Defensive Player of the Year voting that year.

From 2021-2024, he was an annual name on the AFC Pro Bowl roster.

It is interesting that Baltimore backed out of the Crosby trade due to injury concerns while Hendrickson is also coming off of an injury-shortened season. This is a development that NFL teams will not forget and may affect how they do business with the Ravens going forward.
