Everton in top away form, but there's a dreadful statistic ahead of Arsenal clash

Everton’s away form faces the ultimate test against Arsenal, with the Toffees having struggled badly against the Gunners on their travels.

Everton are back in Premier League action on Saturday after a break last weekend, and are looking to build on the win over Burnley.

Burnley did not present an especially big challenge to Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with David Moyes’ side running out 2-0 winners.

Arsenal will be a different beast.

Mikel Arteta’s side are the Premier League leaders and are gunning for their first title since 2004.

A lot has been made about how good Everton have been on the road, but the club’s record against Arsenal is unfortunately very poor.

Everton have won seven of their 14 away games so far this season, which is an impressive feat. They’ve also drawn three and lost four.

Moyes’ men have won four of their last five league games on the road, the other being a draw, and could win three in a row for the first time since December 2023 when they had a run of four.

But beating Arsenal away from home is not something that happens very often.

Indeed, Everton have actually won only one of their last 29 away games against Arsenal.

That win came back in April 2021, when Carlo Ancelotti was the manager.

Bernd Leno made a howler, failing to collect a Richarlison pass across by letting it slip through his hands, hitting his leg on the way in.

That 1-0 win saw Everton win at Arsenal in the league for the first time since 1996.

It also boosted Everton’s European football hopes at the time. They were eighth, but ultimately their challenge faded away in the coming weeks.

Arsenal vs Everton could be a tough watch

This is a huge game for both sides.

Obviously Arsenal are pushing for the league, and they’ll be doing all of their tricks and dark arts to get three points.

Arsenal’s time-wasting has come into focus ahead of the game, so Everton must try to stop their opponents from taking the lead.

It will be a physical battle, and the ball could be up in the air a lot to play.

Both sides have several tall players, so there will be a real emphasis on set-pieces.

Everton have been fantastic on the road but this really will be a stern test given the record against Arsenal.

But arguably there’s more pressure on the Gunners and it’s Everton’s job to make them feel that as much as possible.
