Tottenham Hotspur issue Igor Tudor update ahead of Liverpool clash

Tottenham Hotspur can hardly arrive at Anfield on Sunday under more dire circumstances. Igor Tudor has become the first Spurs head coach ever to lose his first four games in charge, part of a run that now stands at six straight defeats.

Against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Spurs were effectively beaten before most supporters had settled into their seats. Tudor’s bold – some would say reckless – decision to hand Champions League debutant Antonin Kinsky the gloves backfired spectacularly, with two huge errors inside 17 minutes leading to the keeper being hooked in full view of the world’s cameras.

Atletico were 3-0 up after a slip from Kinsky, another from Micky van de Ven and a botched clearance that Julian Alvarez could roll into an empty net, before Robin Le Normand bundled in a fourth on 22 minutes to make it 4-0.

Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke did at least grab goals either side of Alvarez’s second, but the 5-2 scoreline still leaves Spurs needing a miracle in the second leg and showed just how brittle Tudor’s side have become under the slightest pressure.

While the North London side do have big issues in the injury department, a club the size of Tottenham should never be fighting in a relegation battle.

As a result, there has been whispers that he could be sacked before their visit to Merseyside. However, that does not seem to be the case from early reports.

Sky Sports correspondent Lyall Thomas has reported that Igor Tudor will be taking the pre-Liverpool press conference on Friday, in a big indication that he is remaining in charge until Sunday evening’s clash at Anfield:

“Tottenham have confirmed to the media today that Igor Tudor will take their pre-Liverpool FC press conference on Friday at 1.30pm.”

There is no doubt that Spurs will arrive on a toxic cocktail of pressure heading into Anfield. But whether Arne Slot’s men, who have looked fragile themselves this season, can take advantage is another question entirely.
