14 players could miss Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday comes with both squads carrying fitness headaches and selection issues. Igor Tudor has lost all four of his games in charge of Spurs so far, capped by a bruising defeat 5-2 to Atletico Madrid midweek that only deepened the sense of crisis around his reign.

With Liverpool pushing to keep pace in the Champions League qualifying race and Tottenham desperate to arrest their slide at the bottom of the table, as many as 14 players across both clubs could be ruled out or rated doubtful heading into Sunday’s clash.

Slot has said he does not expect the striker back until around the end of March or the start of April. He is also not expected to be fit for Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers later this month.

Federico Chiesa – doubt

The Italy international missed the trip to Galatasaray due to illness. It remains to be seen if he is back in the matchday squad for Sunday.

Alisson Becker – doubt

The 33-year-old likewise missed the defeat in Istanbul on Tuesday night due to small issue he felt during training on Monday. Arne Slot has asserted that he does not feel it will be a “big” injury.

Wilson Odobert – out

Odobert’s season is over after he damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Spurs have confirmed that he underwent surgery, with a lengthy rehab programme to follow under the club’s medical staff.

Destiny Udogie – doubt

Udogie is in a race against time to make Anfield as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Lucas Bergvall – out

Bergvall picked up an ankle injury that the club fear could keep him out for a while. He is not expected back until mid-April.

Ben Davies – out

Rodrigo Bentancur – out

Mohammed Kudus – out

The Ghanian is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring and quad tendon injury. The club’s guidance is that he is unlikely to be back before the end of March.

Dejan Kulusevski – out

Before his departure, Thomas Frank admitted Kulusevski has been dealing with “really big problems” physically, even if the player and medical staff remain upbeat. Spurs hope he might feature again before the end of the season, but for now there is no clear timeframe on his return.

James Maddison – out
