Chelsea’s Estevão will miss the club’s Champions League clash with PSG as he continues recovering from a muscle injury. This is according to information from ESPN Brazil.
The Brazilian attacker is also expected to sit out the Premier League match against Newcastle United this weekend.
Journalists Pedro Ivo Almeida and Vinicius Nicoletti report that the situation is not considered serious. Both the player’s entourage and the Brazil national team staff expect him to be fit in time for the upcoming international break later this month.
The current plan is for Estevão to return to action next week. Chelsea hope he could be available either for the second leg against PSG or for the Premier League fixture against Everton shortly after.
Estevão injury timeline and Chelsea plan
For now, the Blues are managing the youngster’s recovery carefully. The expectation is that he will not take part in the Champions League first leg against PSG on March 11th. He will also miss the Newcastle United match in the Premier League.
However, the injury is viewed as a short-term issue. Chelsea believe he could return in time for the decisive Champions League tie against PSG next Tuesday. Otherwise, he could return for the league meeting with Everton a few days later.
That timeline also keeps him in line for Brazil duty. Carlo Ancelotti is due to announce his next Brazil squad on March 16. This will be ahead of friendlies against France and Croatia later in the month.
