The world has shifted for the Las Vegas Raiders quite drastically over the past 24 hours. At this time yesterday, the Raiders were of the belief that they would be trading superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens. After Crosby failed his physical with the Ravens, though, they shockingly decided to back out of their trade for him on Tuesday night.
In the wake of this decision, it’s safe to say that the Raiders are reeling, as their entire offseason plan has changed in the blink of an eye. And suddenly, Crosby’s injury status has become the subject of widespread attention across the league. In the wake of Baltimore’s decision, Crosby’s surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, provided a new update on his injury status.
Maxx Crosby’s Surgeon Breaks Silence on Failed Physical
In the wake of the 2025 campaign, Crosby underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee. It’s rare to see a player of Crosby’s caliber get traded while recovering from such a surgery, but every team across the league knew of his injury situation while discussing a potential trade for him as his relationship with the Raiders unraveled.
That initially didn’t stop Baltimore from sending two first-round draft picks to Las Vegas in exchange for Crosby. However, when taking a closer look at his medicals, the Ravens saw things that made them reconsider this deal, and as a result, teams across the league are now going to be concerned about potentially trading for Crosby because of this development.
And yet, it remains to be seen if Baltimore’s medical staff actually found something legitimately concerning about Crosby’s long-term health, or if it simply got cold feet and decided to pivot to Trey Hendrickson (who signed a four-year, $112 million contract with the team on Wednesday morning). Amid all the chatter, ElAttrache, who performed the surgery on Crosby’s knee, reaffirmed that the Raiders’ defensive star is on the right track when it comes to his rehab.
“Maxx Crosby is doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee,” ElAttrache said in a statement to Adam Schefter of ESPN. “He is certainly on track in his planned program … he feels very well and is already much improved compared to before surgery.”

What the future holds for Crosby and the Raiders moving forward is unknown. Las Vegas could look to trade Crosby to a new team, or it could simply hold onto him. Of course, there are so many new circumstances when it comes to this situation that it’s going to take the front office some time to chart a new path forward.
Figuring out the truth regarding Crosby’s health is probably the most important thing for the team to do right now, as it will help them get a gauge on what his trade value is (assuming they still want to trade him). There is a chance that Crosby will stay with the Raiders in 2026, though, which is a shocking change that nobody could have seen coming just 24 hours ago.
