Knicks key forward could be Lakers offseason target, says analyst

NBA analyst Dan Favale says Knicks forward OG Anunoby could be a potential Lakers offseason target. While moving him would be difficult under normal circumstances, a blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo trade could open the door, with the Lakers acting as a facilitator.

OG Anunoby has long been one of the NBA's most sought-after two-way wings, and the Los Angeles Lakers could consider pursuing him this offseason if the right conditions emerge.

NBA analyst Dan Favale, in a recent Bleacher Report offseason preview, named Anunoby as one of the Lakers' most intriguing potential trade targets while the team looks to improve its wing positions.

"OG Anunoby isn't going anywhere unless the New York Knicks luck into Giannis Antetokounmpo," Favale wrote. "Knowing the two-time MVP showed exclusive interest in the Big Apple last summer, the Lakers should hold out hope for the chance to swoop in as a third-party facilitator who sends draft equity the Milwaukee Bucks' way."

Favale noted that while Anunoby would be difficult to move under normal circumstances, a larger trade scenario involving Giannis Antetokounmpo could open the door for Los Angeles.

The Lakers could potentially act as a facilitator in such a deal, using draft picks and additional assets to make the trade work.

"If they play their cards right, they have enough ancillary money: Jake LaRavia, Deandre Ayton (player option), Marcus Smart (player option) to complete a lopsided deal without nuking all of their cap space," Favale added.

Anunoby is in the third season of his five-year, $212.5 million contract with the Knicks, set to earn $42.5 million next season.

This year, he is averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 steals, while shooting 36.7 percent from three-point range.
