West Ham And Everton Are Both Keen On Signing Midfielder Who Chelsea Sold For£12.5M Last Year

West Ham and Everton have both sent scouts to watch Torino midfielder Cesare Casadei over the past few weeks, according to reports in the Italian media.

Tuttosport claim that the two Premier League clubs have been keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old after some promising displays this season.

Casadei should already be a familiar name to many, as he spent two and a half years at Chelsea.

However, he didn’t manage to make his first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge, having made just 17 appearances in total.

Casadei spent most of his time out on loan at Reading and Leicester City before he was sold to Torino for €15m (£12.5m) in February last year.

What has Casadei done since moving back to Italy?

The midfielder scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in 15 league appearances during the second half of the 2024/25 season, which isn’t particularly impressive.

However, things have picked up during his first full campaign with Torino, having scored 5 times in 28 games across all competitions. He was on the scoresheet last weekend during the 2-1 defeat to Napoli.

Casadei has got close to getting his first senior cap for Italy over the past twelve months, having been named on the bench for the quarter-finals of the Nations League against Germany in March 2025. He was also a substitute for two World Cup qualifiers last summer, but he wasn’t called up for the internationals in September, October or November.

West Ham will be looking to strengthen their midfield options

Casadei is likely to be among the list of transfer targets if the Irons manage to stay up. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo lost both Guido Rodriguez and Lucas Paqueta in January, and James Ward-Prowse is expected to be sold once his loan spell at Burnley comes to an end this summer too, so reinforcements are needed.

Having signed two promising young midfielders in Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa last year, they may try to repeat the trick with Casadei.
