The Dallas Cowboys and team owner Jerry Jones have yet to have the kind of splash offseason that many were expecting them to have.

Before NFL free agency opens up, Jones spoke out with a clear message about wanting to spend big money. He suggested that the Cowboys would spend like they haven’t spent in years.

“I would bet that we will spend more money in free agency than we have,” Jones said.

He continued on, doubling down that he planned to use a lot of money to put Dallas back into Super Bowl contention in 2026.

“I want you to know that the only way to push more [out] is for me to go borrow some of my future, OK?” Jones said. “Expect me to go borrow some of my future.”

So far this offseason, that hasn’t been the case. The Cowboys have made a few moves, but there have been no additions that show the team going all-in on Super Bowl contention.

What Have the Dallas Cowboys Done This Offseason So Far?

To this point in the NFL offseason, the Cowboys have added pass rusher Rashan Gary in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, safety Jalen Thompson on a three-year $33 million deal in free agency, quarterback Sam Howell, safety P.J. Locke, and defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia.

None of those moves are true franchise-changing additions.

After being rumored to have interest in names like Maxx Crosby, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Trey Hendrickson, and more, Dallas has been a free agency disappointment. The Cowboys still haven’t done anything to make fans feel like they’re trying to win now.

With that being said, the team still has time to make some impact moves in free agency. They will also have a chance to bring in high-impact players with two first-round picks in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.

Jerry Jones Projected to Land Elite 34.5-Sack Pass Rusher

Speaking of the two first-round picks Dallas owns in the 2026 draft, there are quite a few players who could make sense for the team.

Jacob Infante of Pro Football Network has released a mock draft that would see the Cowboys double down on the defensive side of the football. He has them taking Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy at No. 12 overall and backing that up with pass rusher Ahkeem Mesidor from Miami at No. 20 overall.

Mesidor would be a huge help in replacing the presence of Micah Parsons. He, along with Gary, could get the Dallas pass rush back on track.

“The tools have always been there for Akheem Mesidor, and he put it all together for the Hurricanes in 2025,” Infante wrote. “He’s an older prospect entering the 2026 NFL Draft, but one with impressive power setting the edge and a deep arsenal to disengage from blocks as a pass rusher. He’s a high-floor edge rusher and projects as an immediate starter.”

Throughout his college football career with West Virginia and Miami, Mesidor racked up a total of 208 tackles, 34.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and four defended passes. Rueben Bain Jr. has received more of the pre-draft hype, but there were times that Mesidor outperformed him.

Should this mock draft end up being accurate, fans would end up loving Mesidor. The Cowboys have to make some moves, but the 2026 draft could help them make up for a slower free agency than expected.
