“Liverpool will submit a petition”–Reds mocked in Turkey after being‘buried’by Galatasaray

If Liverpool needed any motivation to turn their Champions League clash against Galatasaray around, Sinan Engin may have just handed it to them.

Haber Sari Kirmizi cover comments from him today following the Turkish side’s 1-0 win over Arne Slot’s side on Tuesday evening.

The Reds were comfortably beaten by the Super Lig side last night in the first leg of their round of 16 double header. Mario Lemina’s seventh minute goal proved to be the difference between the two sides.

But it could have been much worse as Victor Osimhen’s goal was ruled out in the second half. Liverpool also saw VAR cancel out a Dominik Szoboszlai strike.

Liverpool buried by Gala

The fact that Giorgi Mamardashvili was named man of the match was seen as an indicator of how events unfolded, however. A considerable impression was made on Engin, with it being insisted that the Premier League champions were buried by Galatasaray.

“Galatasaray is the conqueror of Europe,” the Turkish pundit said.

“Galatasaray played as if they were playing against a normal Anatolian team. That’s how I saw Liverpool. Galatasaray is suffocating Liverpool.

“Liverpool isn’t the old Liverpool, and Juventus isn’t the old Galatasaray. This is Galatasaray, the Galatasaray that conquers Europe. In other words, they are your father.

“They played very spirited football. You can win 1-0 by defending, but Galatasaray is still looking for a second or third goal even in the 90+4th minute. Galatasaray played their best European match to date.

“Beating Liverpool in both matches is no small feat. Galatasaray buried Liverpool at Rams Park.”

Victor Osimhen a big plus

Victor Osimhen was an absolute handful for Liverpool’s defence on Tuesday evening.

The Nigeria international has scored seven goals and added three assists in the Champions League this season. That takes him to 18 goals and 7 assists from 27 matches in total.

Engin was again left very impressed, with the Turkish pundit saying: “Galatasaray has an extraordinary player; Victor Osimhen. You have to look at his genetics, he’s more than just a human. What does this guy eat, man? He must be eating lions. Osimhen has become like a lion. Icardi has been forgotten.”

Anfield optimism

Attention now turns to the second leg at Anfield. A 1-0 defeat is definitely not difficult for Liverpool to overcome on home soil.

Anfield may not be quite the fortress it once was, but it still has the power to transform into a bear pit during European nights. Arne Slot’s side will certainly be hoping that’s the case after this defeat.

In fact, Eldin believes that if Galatasaray win on Merseyside, Liverpool may be filing a petition with UEFA.

“If Galatasaray eliminates Liverpool there, they will file a petition with UEFA. It’ll say ‘We don’t want Galatasaray to come to us again’,” he added.

If that doesn’t provide motivation for the Reds, then nothing might. Not only has Erdin claimed they were buried in the first leg, now he’s basically calling them cry-babies.

Now, we’re not offering up suggestions, but we’d suggest printing that out, sticking it on a wall somewhere and seeing what happens at Anfield.
