Newcastle United injury news: Eddie Howe is currently without a few of his key players, but could welcome back two to his starting XI ahead of their upcoming matches against Chelsea and Barcelona.
The Magpies travel to the capital just days after putting in a full throttle performance against Barcelona at St James’ Park - with the second-leg of that tie to come next Wednesday. Eddie Howe’s side may have one eye on that game, but they know they cannot afford too many more slip ups in the league if they want to ensure they are playing European football next season.
And Howe may have the luxury of being able to pick from a fairly full complement of players heading into those games. He does, though, still have a few injury issues to deal with, including the absence of their captain Bruno Guimaraes who remains sidelined with a muscle injury.
Here, we take a look at the latest injury news affecting Newcastle United and when those sidelined players could be expected back in action.
Newcastle United injury news & estimated return dates
Fabian Schar - ankle injury
Schar suffered a fairly serious ankle injury against Leeds United in January, although initial prognosis on the injury was not as severe as first thought. There is hope he can return to action before the end of the season - and that could come as early as next month if all goes well.
Estimated return date - Bournemouth (h) 18/04/26
Emil Krafth - knee injury
Krafth hasn’t featured for Newcastle United since their defeat against West Ham at the London Stadium at the beginning of November. Howe confirmed last month that the defender has undergone surgery on a knee injury and that it is likely his season is over.
Estimated return date - 26/27 pre-season

Lewis Miley - leg injury
Miley hasn’t featured since Newcastle United’s draw with PSG. The teenager has suffered an injury to his leg and whilst there was hope that it was not a significant problem, it has been enough to keep him out of action since the end of January. Howe has confirmed that the club are taking extra caution over his recovery but there is a possibility he is back in action next week.
Estimated return date - Barcelona (a) 18/03/26
Bruno Guimaraes - muscle injury
Guimaraes suffered an injury late on against Spurs last month and has not featured for the Magpies since. An estimated eight to ten weeks on the sidelines will keep Guimaraes out of action until April.
Guimaraes is expected to miss 12 matches in all by the time he returns to full fitness, including the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland. An exact date for his return after the international break could be determined by Newcastle United’s progress in the Champions League.
Estimated return date - Champions League quarter-final on 6/7 April OR Crystal Palace (a) 11/04/26 (match could be moved to Sunday if Crystal Palace reach Conference League quarter-finals)
Anthony Gordon - illness
Gordon was surprisingly named as a substitute on Tuesday night, with Newcastle United revealing that it was due to illness. He came on as a late substitute and will hope he can recover in time to start at the weekend.
