NBA history was made on Tuesday night in Miami.
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo scored 83 points in a 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards at Kaseya Center, slotting himself in second place for the most points scored in a single NBA game.
The 28-year-old sank 20 of his 43 field goal attempts (including seven three-pointers), and converted on an NBA-record 36 free throws out of 43 attempts. The New Jersey native added nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in 42 minutes.
Adebayo surpassed the late Kobe Bryant's 81-point effort, and sits behind Wilt Chamberlain's mythical 100-point game.
Reactions to the historic scoring performance poured in over social media, with superstars past and present like LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki and Dwyane Wade congratulating Adebayo on his heroic night.
Players and coaches around the NBA were asked about Adebayo's big night, and one head coach had a hilarious reaction to the staggering statline.

Houston Rockets' Ime Udoka
Following their 113-99 win over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka was asked about his thoughts on Adebayo's 83-point game. Udoka couldn't help but point to the irregular amount of free throws Adebayo converted, but threw in a little dig at the end of his answer.
"First thing you think is how — not because of him but because of the way he plays. I saw he only made six threes but 40 free throws or something like that, tells the story right there...
"And the Washington Wizards."
Even if he said it in jest, the Rockets bench boss does make a compelling point. The Wizards are having a horrible season, sitting in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a 16-48 record. They're allowing the second most points per game (123.7) and field goals made (44.3) in the NBA this season.
Washington hasn't made the NBA Playoffs since the 2020-21 season, when they lost in the First Round.
Udoka's Rockets, meanwhile, are cruising with a 40-24 record, good enough for third place in the Western Conference.
