Indianapolis Colts ink quarterback Daniel Jones to historic $100 million contract amid NFL free …

The Indianapolis Colts truly believe they have found their franchise quarterback. After Daniel Jones washed out of the New York Giants, and after he failed to make the roster with the Minnesota Vikings, he was signed by the Colts and won their starting quarterback job.

Not only that, but he thrived. Early on, he was a candidate to win the 2025 NFL MVP Award. Unfortunately, a torn ACL ended his season early. He finished the year with a 68.0% completion percentage, 3,101 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 100.2 passer rating.

Even though there were questions about his future with the Colts heading into the off-season, they have suddenly all been answered.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (17) runs the ball on a keeper during the first quarter of an NFL football game at EverBank Stadium, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, in Jacksonville, Fla. The Jaguars defeated the Colts 36-19.

Despite the torn ACL, Jones is expected to be cleared by the time training camp starts this summer. The Colts, not wanting to risk losing him in free agency, placed the transition tag on his last week. This meant that he could negotiate with other NFL teams, but Indianapolis would have the right to match the offer.

It never got to that point, though.

On Wednesday morning, Jones agreed to a two-year $100 million contract with the Colts:

The #Colts are locking in their QB, finalizing a deal with Daniel Jones to secure the most important position, per me and @TomPelissero.

As Rapoport notes, this is the largest two-year contract in the history of the NFL. It is not fully guaranteed, though. Jones will make $50 million in the first season, and perhaps be able to negotiate an even larger deal if he has a healthy and productive season in 2026.

Astoundingly, this brings Jones’ career earnings in the NFL to around $222 million.

This is the second massive deal that Indianapolis has made in the last couple of days. Previously, they had agreed to a four-year $116 million deal with wide receiver Alec Pierce. Now, they have their most important offensive players, along with running back Jonathan Taylor, under contract for 2026 and hope for a better outcome.
