Patriots reportedly add linebacker K.J. Britt on one-year deal

The New England Patriots have added from elsewhere in the AFC East.

The organization reached a one-year contract with linebacker K.J. Britt heading into the NFL’s official start of unrestricted free agency on Wednesday, as [ESPN’s Adam Schefter](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2031761512226754886?s=20) reported.

Britt, 26, spent the 2025 season with the Miami Dolphins. The 6-foot, 240-pound veteran appeared in all 17 games during his stay at Hard Rock Stadium. He recorded 35 tackles along the way and made one start off the ball.

Originally entering the NFL in the fifth round of the 2021 draft at No. 176 overall, Britt spent the duration of his rookie contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Auburn product stands 76 games into his run and with 16 starts. He has had a hand in 161 tackles to go with a split sack, four stops for loss and three passes defensed.

Britt’s career spans 994 snaps on defense and 1,289 snaps on special teams. He finished his time in Miami Gardens with 11 tackles in the kicking game as well as a team-high 76.9 percent of the workload as a core contributor in that phase.

Fellow inside linebacker Jack Gibbens, who made eight starts last campaign for a depth chart led by captain Robert Spillane, looms as a restricted free agent in Foxborough.

The new league year is set to arrive at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
