Chelsea flop Timo Werner has finally found some form after January transfer

Timo Werner’s move to Chelsea brought an end to any momentum he had going for him in his career, however a move to the MLS has seen signs of a revival.

There were big hopes for Werner at Chelsea after they beat Liverpool to his signature in 2020, and he would boast an impressive trophy cabinet from his time at the club.

He was part of the starting side who won the Champions League, however is largely considered a flop for his performances for the club, as well as his future outings at RB Leipzig and Tottenham.

He got a much-needed move in January, moving to San Jose Earthquakes, where he has so far made two appearances off the bench.

In less than 75 minutes combined across those two games, Werner has provided two assists for crucial goals in back-to-back wins.

His second was a moment of real class. The German had cut in from the left before providing a perfect through ball for his teammate to convert from close range.

Lothar Matthaus believes Chelsea ruined Werner by bringing him in, with there being plenty of competition for places in attack at Stamford Bridge at the time.

At £60m, he seems to be a bit of a bargain!

Kai Havertz and later Romelu Lukaku shoehorned the German out of his spot at centre forward, forcing him to compete for minutes on the left wing, where he has started his career at San Jose.

Here though, he was up against the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi for minutes, and eventually saw himself completely out of the plans.

Pulisic has shown how a player can revive their career after moving away from Stamford Bridge, and despite a delayed start it looks as if Werner is finally moving in this direction too.
