Patriots Predicted To Draft This Wide Receiver In FIrst Round Despite Paying Romeo Doubs

The New England Patriots have reportedly agreed to sign Romeo Doubs on a four-year deal worth up to $80 million, per ESPN.

The Patriots are making a major investment in Doubs after deciding to move on from Stefon Diggs. However, USA Today's Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz predicts that that will not stop them from drafting a wide receiver in the first round. Middlehurst-Schwartz predicted the Patriots would select KC Concepcion of Texas A&M University.

"Even after subbing in Romeo Doubs for Stefon Diggs, New England can and should be in the market for more help at receiver," Middlehurst-Schwartz wrote on Wednesday. "Concepcion can capitalize on Drake Maye's arm strength with his proven ability to separate."

Concepcion had 919 receiving yards and was a Consensus All-American last season. He had nine receiving touchdowns, tied for the SEC lead with the University of Tennessee's Chris Brazzell II. In three collegiate seasons, he had 2,218 yards and 25 receiving touchdowns. He had 839 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns as a freshman at North Carolina State. Concepcion also has three career rushing touchdowns and two punt return touchdowns.

He is versatile, but not perfect. He dropped 19 passes in three seasons and checks in at just 6-foot, 196 pounds. However, with Doubs and Kayshon Boutte ahead of him, he could develop and serve as a great piece to round out the starting receiver group.

The Patriots have bigger needs than receiver. Adding to the pass rush should also be a focus for the team. However, this class is deep with pass rushers.
