The Green Bay Packers’ EDGE rusher depth took a hit in free agency this offseason, leaving them with only four players under contract. Kingsley Enagbare signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the New York Jets, while the Dallas Cowboys acquired Rashan Gary for a 2027 fourth-round pick. To make matters worse, Micah Parsons may miss or be limited for the first month of the 2026 season.
The Packers currently have two EDGE rushers who are free agents and may return on a lower salary.

According to Adam Schefter, the Packers have re-signed Brenton Cox Jr. to a one-year, $2.5 million contract, though it’s unclear if they added a signing bonus or guaranteed money to the deal. The 2023 undrafted free agent was a restricted free agent, and the front office could have applied one of three tenders: the right-of-first refusal, the second-round, or the first-round tender. Instead, the team bypassed the tender and signed him to a contract that was $1 million lower than the right-of-first refusal tender.

Brenton Cox was looking to pick up where he left off from midseason 2024, when he recorded 18 pressures and four sacks, and carry that momentum into the 2025 season. He enjoyed a strong training camp and preseason performance and was expected to be a huge part of the rotation, but a significant groin injury in Week 1 caused him to miss 13 games and hamper his breakout. Cox returned in Week 16 and recorded five tackles, one TFL, six pressures, four quarterback hits, and one forced fumble across five games and one start.
