David Ornstein has shared a significant update relating to Arne Slot’s status as Liverpool manager.
Especially in the wake of Liverpool’s disappointing loss to Galatasaray, the anti-Slot sentiment is doing the rounds at Anfield.
But we know FSG are backing Slot. That has been the running theory all season, and what the club themselves have stated.
However, football is a results business, and there is always a limit to an owners’ patience. Well, Ornstein explains that the limit hasn’t been approached yet, and there’s a reason.

David Ornstein says Liverpool see no better profile than Arne Slot
As The Athletic’s main transfer correspondent, Ornstein has a closer grasp on the thinking of club hierarchies around the Premier League than most.
He says Liverpool aren’t showing signs of changing their minds.
On their podcast, he reveals: “Liverpool, from what we hear, are steadfastly behind Arne Slot and he’s under contract until 2027 and they want him to be their coach. The hierarchy are determined that he is the man to get things right.”

Ornstein explains further how the likes of Xabi Alonso and Enzo Maresca aren’t held in higher regard than the Dutchman.

He continues: “If they were looking at a recruitment process for coaches, he’s said to be the exact profile that they would be looking at and that there’s not people on the market that they think better suit what they’re looking for. That they’re happy with him.”
A fair explanation, but one that won’t be received well by many parts of the fanbase — and the sentiment won’t improve if results don’t.
“I’m expecting this to go on and that the club get to the summer in whatever shape,” he concludes. “I don’t think taking out the head coach is on Liverpool’s agenda at all”

There you go. Slot is the man for the job for the foreseeable. Even those who call for his dismissal haven’t been that convinced it would actually happen.
It could be more suffering the rest of the season, or maybe, just maybe, he can turn it around.
