Kai Havertz has spoken candidly about the tough time over a season curtailed by injury and he said that being away from enjoying playing football had given him an extra incentive to return in better shape. The Arsenal forward described the last year as one of the toughest challenges of his career, but he now believes the experience has given him a fresh perspective.

The 26-year-old attacker has only managed 10 appearances across competitions this season due to multiple fitness problems. Despite the setbacks, Havertz says the time spent recovering has reignited his desire to contribute to the team during the decisive months of the campaign.

Kai Havertz reflects on a season disrupted by injuries

Havertz’s campaign never truly found rhythm after a series of physical setbacks kept him sidelined for long periods. The Germany international first suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s winter training camp in Dubai last February. The issue proved serious enough to require surgery and forced him into a lengthy rehabilitation programme.

And just as he moved closer to a return, another hurdle emerged. Kai Havertz picked up a knee injury on the opening day of the season, an issue that ruled him out for more than four months and delayed his comeback even further. Looking back at that frustrating run, Havertz acknowledged his season had not gone as he had hoped. But he also feels that trying times can also shape a player’s mindset for the better.

He explained that the stop start nature of the campaign forced him to remain patient while focusing on recovery. According to the attacker, overcoming these physical setbacks has given him renewed appreciation for playing regularly.

Havertz said he had never faced a challenge like this earlier in his career, which made the experience particularly demanding. Yet the process also strengthened his determination to return quickly and help the team again.

Support from Arsenal helped during recovery

The forward also highlighted the mental side of dealing with two surgeries in a short period. Kai Havertz said the experience challenged him physically and psychologically. The pain from the injuries had hit him out of nowhere, he said which made the situation hard to process. But he said his concern was about staying professional throughout the recovery.

Teammates, club staff and family offered support to keep him positive. During his months spent away from the pitch, Havertz said those close to him encouraged him. As per the reports, Arsenal carefully managed his rehabilitation to ensure he returned fully fit before the decisive phase of the football calendar and the ongoing Premier League campaign.

The striker believes those months reminded him how much he missed training and matches. Being separated from the dressing room and competition made him more determined to return stronger.

Eyes on crucial Champions League clash

Havertz is now returning to full fitness and has featured in Arsenal’s last three matches. However, his recovery has not been completely smooth. Earlier this year he suffered another setback when a muscle problem briefly disrupted his progress in February. Fortunately the issue proved less serious and he resumed training with the squad.

Arsenal now travel to Germany for a European fixture against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last 16. For Havertz, the match holds extra importance as he comes up against a team from his home country. As the season reaches a crucial stage in all competitions, the forward aspires to play an increasingly prominent role in coming weeks.

Arsenal remain involved in several tournaments and every available player could become crucial during the run in. For Havertz, the recovery has created a new level of motivation. After months watching from the sidelines, he says being back on the pitch restored the hunger that first drove him into the game.
