The New England Patriots will reportedly release Stefon Diggs when the new league year officially begins. Where will he sign to play next season?
Diggs had a 1,000-yard campaign and was the clear No. 1 receiver for the Patriots last season. He is 32 years old and was coming off a torn ACL, so his numbers may have been a shock to some. However, he should be able to draw interest on the open market. Here are three teams that could benefit from signing Diggs.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans have a young quarterback, have hired a new head coach and lack real talent at wide receiver. The team's leading receiver was Chigoziem Okonkwo with 560 yards, and he is a free agent. Calvin Ridley should be back, but Diggs would give the Titans another weapon for Cam Ward.
Diggs has experience and emerged as a leader on the Patriots last season. The only question is whether he would be willing to sign with a team that may not be a contender right away.
Buffalo Bills
This move would certainly make headlines, considering the rumors surrounding Josh Allen and Diggs' relationship. However, last season Diggs cleared some of the air. He spoke about the viral picture of him side-eyeing Allen when he was on the Texans.
“They had that picture, right? Of me side-eyeing him,” Diggs said. “They just caught it at the wrong time and I’ve always wanted to speak on that photo because I was staring at him in the moment because it was like, ‘Damn, that was my brother.’ We won in Houston, but that’s my brother.”
Additionally, during Super Bowl media day, Diggs said he has plenty of love for the Bills and their fan base still.
“I love you guys. I know I’m far gone, but I do miss you all. I built a great relationship with you all. “Keep hanging your head on that quarterback. That quarterback is a Hall of Famer. Parts of me do wish things were different because I do have a lot of love and respect for that team.”
Well, the Bills traded for D.J. Moore, but their receiver room still needs help. Diggs could reunite with Allen and try to finally win a championship together.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers did not need Diggs as much as other teams going into free agency. However, after losing Mike Evans, Diggs would be a great asset to have. Emeka Egbuka looks like he could become a superstar in the league, but losing Evans and an aging Chris Godwin creates a need for more help in the receiver room.
Diggs and Egbuka could be a great tandem for Baker Mayfield to throw to as the Buccaneers try to get back on track. Jalen McMNillian missed most of last season, but he, Egbuka and Diggs could form a great trio next season.
