Travis Kelce shares when he knew he was returning for another season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - With the Kansas City Chiefs confirming Wednesday that tight end Travis Kelce is returning for more action, Kelce shared more of his thinking regarding a return.

In a new episode of the _New Heights Podcast,_ Kelce told his brother Jason exactly when he knew he was planning to return for a 14th season.

“About midway through the season,” Travis told Jason as to when he knew he was planning to come back in 2026.

“So what were you waiting on then?” Jason asked.

“You know, I think I was taking Jason Kelce’s advice. I was taking the advice to step back because you don’t -- you gotta let the emotions clear and you’ve gotta have a clear head.

Travis continued: “I’ve made decisions based off of emotions and they haven’t always played out the right way so I think taking a step back and letting the emotions settle down, the frustrations from the season -- of course I wanted to come back. Of course I didn’t want to end my career not making the playoffs, not having one of the best years. It still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it and obviously there’s still a little bit of that emotion and I hated the way that s--- ended last year.”

On the field, Kelce’s production has slipped a bit from his days as a league-leading receiver, but he still led Kansas City in receptions, receiving yards and tied for the Chiefs lead in receiving touchdowns.

“I wanna make it right,” Kelce said of last year’s 6-11 record and failure to make the playoffs. “And I wanna get another chance at another f------ Super Bowl, man.”
