The New York Giants are facing a significant potential shift in their ownership structure, as co-owners Steve, Laurie, and Jonathan Tisch have requested to transfer their remaining stakes in the team—totaling 23.1%—to trusts established for their children, according to an NFL memo obtained by ESPN and dated March 11, 2026.
If approved by the league’s finance committee, the move would result in Steve, Laurie, and Jonathan Tisch no longer holding any direct ownership interest in the franchise.

New York Giants Ownership Shakeup: Tisch Family Requests Transfer of Stake to Children’s Trusts Amid Epstein Scrutiny
The memo states:
“Prior transfers to these Trusts were completed pursuant to 2023 and 2024 Finance Committee approvals. The Sellers now propose to transfer their entire remaining interests, totaling 23.1% of the Club, to the Trusts. … Following the transactions, the Sellers will no longer own any interest in the Club.”
This follows previous partial transfers in recent years and is described by sources as part of normal family succession planning. The Tisch family has long co-controlled the Giants alongside the Mara family (45% stake), with the Koch family holding a 10% non-controlling minority interest acquired last year.
A Giants spokesperson declined to comment when reached, and the NFL offered no immediate statement. The request comes amid heightened scrutiny on Steve Tisch following his name appearing over 440 times in recently released Jeffrey Epstein files from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Emails from around 2013 show Epstein connecting Tisch to numerous women, with discussions including invitations to Giants games and references to women as “pro or civilian” or “working girl.” Tisch has denied any wrongdoing, stating he had a “brief association” involving emails about adult women, movies, philanthropy, and investments, and that he never visited Epstein’s island or accepted invitations. He has not been accused of any crimes.
The NFL previously indicated it would review the Epstein connections after their release in January/February 2026, with Commissioner Roger Goodell saying the league would “look at all the facts.” Executives and owners have anticipated further updates on Tisch ahead of league meetings, and some view this transfer as a step to distance from ongoing questions while keeping the stake within the family.
Reactions and Implications for New York Giants Ownership
The move has sparked speculation that it could be influenced by the Epstein controversy, though sources emphasize it’s standard estate planning. If approved, the next generation of Tisches—potentially including those already holding portions of the family stake—would assume greater roles, with Jonathan Tisch currently serving as team treasurer and Laurie on the board. It’s unclear who would emerge as the family’s primary representative in team operations.
Giants fans and NFL observers have mixed reactions on social media, with some seeing it as prudent succession amid scrutiny, while others question the timing. The franchise, valued at over $10 billion, remains stable under the Mara-Tisch partnership, but this change could reshape dynamics ahead of the 2026 season.
The finance committee’s approval process will determine the outcome, potentially marking the end of the current generation’s direct involvement for the Tisch family.
