Report: Chicago Bears will re-sign safety Elijah Hicks

Hicks has been a core special teamer since being drafted by the Bears in the seventh round of Ryan Poles’ first draft class, but he has also started 15 games in his career. In all, he’s appeared in 61 games, with 122 tackles, 3 passes defended, 3 fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble.

Last season, he played a career high 309 snaps in the third phase, while racking up 12 special teams tackles. He also played a career-low number of snaps on defense (62), thanks to Chicago’s starting safeties staying healthy, but on those reps, he posted a career-low 72.1 passer rating allowed. Low sample size with just 5 targets against, but we’re talking about a backup!

Hicks is now the third member of Poles’ first draft class to get a second contract by the Bears, after Kyler Gordon and Braxton Jones.

Chicago’s safety room added Coby Bryant in free agency from the Seattle Seahawks, and they lost Kevin Byard III to the New England Patriots.

What do you think Chicago does next at safety?
