Seahawks announce re-signings of WR Shaheed, LB Thomas

The Seattle Seahawks made two of their reported re-signings official on Wednesday, announcing wide receiver/return man Rashied Shaheed and linebacker Drake Thomas have signed multi-year deals with the teams.

Specifics on the contracts for either player were not announced. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday Shaheed is returning on a three-year, $51 million deal that includes $34.7 million guaranteed. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported last Thursday that Thomas and the Seahawks had agreed upon a two-year, $8 million deal that could be worth up to $9 million.

Shaheed, 27, was set to hit the market as an unrestricted free agent following his 12-game stint with the Seahawks that included a run to the Super Bowl title.

“I’m super excited to get a full offseason with this team, with these coaches,” Shaheed said via Seahawks.com’s John Boyle. “It’s exciting that I get to be around these guys for a longer amount of time and build off of what we built last year, and for my role to continue to grow. Just being a part of it all is special.”

An undrafted rookie out Weber State in 2022, Shaheed was acquired in a Nov. 4 trade that sent 2026 fourth- and fifth-round picks to the New Orleans Saints. In nine regular season games with the Seahawks, he returned a kick and a punt for a touchdown and had 15 receptions for 188 yards and no touchdowns. He added another kick return TD and three receptions for 78 yards in three playoff games.

All three of Shaheed’s return TDs came in big moments for Seattle. He opened the second half in Week 15 against Atlanta with a 100-yard kickoff return TD that broke a tie and sparked a 37-9 win, ignited a wild fourth-quarter comeback with a 58-yard punt return TD in Week 16 against the Rams, and opened the NFC Divisional Round with a 95 kickoff return TD en route to the Seahawks’ 41-6 drubbing of San Francisco.

In 18 total regular season games, including nine with New Orleans, Shaheed had 59 receptions for 687 yards and two TDs. He averaged 14.7 yards on 23 punt returns and 29.8 yards on 15 kickoff returns while earning a Pro Bowl nod as a return man.

Why Rashid Shaheed was worth overpaying for Seahawks

Shaheed’s best season as a receiver came in 2023 when he hauled in 46 receptions for a career-high 719 yards and five TDs over 15 games with the Saints.

Thomas, who went undrafted out of North Carolina State, was set to become a restricted free agent.

“The organization, my teammates, the coaches, this is where I wanted to be,” Thomas said via Boyle. “So to be able to sign back here and lock this in, it means the world to me.”

The 26-year-old Thomas is coming off a breakout season where he surpassed 2024 fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight on the depth chart and was a starter from Week 4 on for Seattle’s top-ranked scoring defense.

In 17 regular season games, the 5-foot-11, 228-pound Thomas racked up 96 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, eight passes defended, 3.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. He was second on the Seahawks in tackles and tackles for loss. He was also the only player in the NFL this past season with at least three sacks, 10 tackles for loss and eight pass breakups, according to Stathead.

Thomas’ lone interception was one of the biggest plays of Seattle’s season. With the Seahawks leading 13-3 in the fourth quarter of their Week 18 de facto NFC West title game against San Francisco, Thomas picked off 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in the red zone to help seal the win.

Thomas added another 18 tackles and a tackle for loss over three playoff games.
