The Rashan Gary trade has been officially processed

You don’t have to worry about the Dallas Cowboys reneging on the trade for former Green Bay Packers pass-rusher Rashan Gary, even though [NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported last night](/green-bay-packers-news/80562/cowboys-interested-still-interested-in-maxx-crosby-after-failed-physical), after the Maxx Crosby trade fell through, that the Cowboys were still interested in Crosby.

The Cowboys have made their official announcement that Gary will be on their team, pen in hand and star in frame. The Packers will be receiving that 2027 fourth-round pick and will be saving $19.5 million in cash this year, which will be reflected on the 2026 and 2027 salary caps.

Without Gary (or Kingsley Enagbare, who signed with the New York Jets earlier this week), the Packers will return Micah Parsons, Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Collin Oliver and Brenton Cox Jr. to the edge defender unit in 2026. They’re all expected to move from 4-3 defensive end to 3-4 outside linebacker in Jonathan Gannon’s new scheme.

Gary will also be playing in a similar 3-4, quarters-heavy defense, as it’s being called by new Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who head coach Matt LaFleur also interviewed for Green Bay’s vacancy this offseason. Parker worked under the quarters system under Vic Fangio in Philadelphia and got his start in the NFL with the Packers, overlapping with Garry’s time with the team.

**Update:** The Packers have now also made an announcement their own, including this quote from general manager Brian Gutekunst.

> “We want to thank Rashan for his commitment and hard work during his seven seasons with the Packers,” said Gutekunst. “His impact was felt both on the field and in the locker room and was key to the success of the six playoff teams that he was a part of in Green Bay. He worked incredibly hard to return from a significant knee injury sustained in 2022 and continued to be an impactful player for us once he was back on the field. We’re appreciative for all that he gave to our team, and we wish Rashan nothing but the best in the future.”
