Entering his age-31 season, is Chiefs DT Chris Jones still the best in the business?
The Kansas City Chiefs have already been very active during free agency.
They have made several huge additions to their roster, such as running back Kenneth Walker III, defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga, and safety Alohi Gilman. Kansas City has also re-signed a few of its own free agents, including tight end Travis Kelce and wide receivers Tyquan Thornton and Nikko Remigio.
The Chiefs are not likely finished adding more free agents. Some of their top remaining positional needs are at cornerback, wide receiver, and defensive line. There are still a lot of good options remaining with the later, and star defensive lineman Chris Jones may have hinted to who he would like the team to pursue.

Jones is always having fun on social media, and has already made posts recently about the Chiefs bringing back Kelce and signing Walker. On Wednesday, seemingly out of the blue, Jones sent out a post on X that simply read “Cam Jordan…”.

Nobody knows if this is Jones lobbying for the Chiefs to sign Jordan, or if he has some insider knowledge that the team is planning to do so. Regardless, Jordan is a name to keep an eye on, as he played under Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo during the 2012 season with the New Orleans Saints.
During that season, Jordan posted a career high in tackles with 67. He also recorded eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and three passes defensed. Jordan has the protype size that Spagnuolo likes in his defensive ends at 6-foot-4 and 287 pounds. At 36 years old, Jordan may not be in his prime anymore, but is actually coming off the best year he’s had in a while, racking up 10.5 sacks in 2025.
Chiefs Still Need to Address Pass Rusher in a Big Way
Kansas City bolstered the defensive tackle position with the Tonga signing, but still needs a lot more help at defensive end. George Karlaftis has seen his sack total decrease each of the last two years. He will remain a starter after signing a four-year contract extension last offseason, but he’ll need another strong starter opposite of him to relieve some pressure.
The Chiefs released veteran Mike Danna after a disappointing last couple of seasons, and won’t likely re-sign Charles Omenihu. The two combined for 957 snaps in 2025, which is a lot to replace. Ashton Gillotte won the team’s Mack Lee Hill Rookie of the Year award last season, but it remains to be seen if he can develop into a high end starter.
Kansas City will almost certainly take a pass rusher with one of its top 100 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. There’s even a decent possibility it uses more than one of those selections on one. The Chiefs would be wise to add a proven veteran pass rusher in free agency as whoever they draft gets acclimated. K.C. ranked 25th in sacks in 2025 with just 35.
