Browns cut ties with three players to become free agents at start of new league year

The Cleveland Browns have a lot of work to do this offseason. Andrew Berry has already been working to bolster the offensive line, adding four veterans in free agency and by trade to better protect Shedeur Sanders.

But, before making more moves to shore up their offense and defense this offseason, the Browns had to make free agent decisions on three players.

According to Mark Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are cutting ties with three players: tight end Blake Whiteheart, defensive lineman Sam Kamara, and linebacker Mohamoud Diabate.

"Browns S Ronnie Hickman was the only RFA they tendered (right of first refusal). Among those not tendered were TE Blake Whiteheart, DL Sam Kamara, and LB Mohamoud Diabate," Cabot reports.

Whiteheart is a 25-year-old tight end who played in all 17 games for the Browns in 2025, and he caught two of six targets for four yards.

Kamara is a 28-year-old lineman who has been with the Browns for four years now and made just four appearances this past season. He had six tackles, including three tackles for loss.

Diabate is just 24 years old, and has appeared in 46 games and made 18 starts for the Browns over the last three seasons. He played in all 17 games in 2025 and made six starts.

The young linebacker has three passes defended in his career, with one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 127 tackles, and eight tackles for loss in three seasons with Cleveland.

These aren't the only players leaving the Browns this offseason who aren't unrestricted free agents. Anthony Kendall and Cam Webb are also becoming free agents after the Browns didn't tender either.

While these aren't the most important players to cut ties with, these are notable roster spots that can be filled in free agency, trades, or the draft.
