No Steelers Reunion: DL Javon Hargrave Headed To Packers

There will be no reunion with the Pittsburgh Steelers for veteran defensive lineman Javon Hargrave.

Shortly after being officially released by the Minnesota Vikings at the start of the new league year, the former Steelers draft pick is heading to Green Bay, reuniting with former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, now with the Packers.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hargrave is signing a two-year deal with the Packers worth $23 million, giving the Packers a big body up front defensively.

Previously, the Vikings were attempting to shop Hagrave via trade, but they were unable to find a suitor, leading to him being cut Wednesday afternoon. That move by the Vikings came just one year after Minnesota signed the veteran defensive lineman to a multi-year deal as part of a free agency spending spree for Brian Flores’ defense.

But Hargrave didn’t work out in Minnesota, and now entering his age 33 season, he’s now onto his fifth stop in the NFL. His first — and only — season with the Vikings was a rough one. Hargrave had just 31 pressures and 3.5 sacks, his lowest full-season total since his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016.

With news of Hargrave’s pending release from Minnesota, a reunion with the Steelers late in his career was a popular talking point. But that won’t come to fruition as he’s off to Green Bay, helping replace the likes of Kenny Clark and Corey Wooten, both of whom the Packers have traded away in recent months to help land the likes of Micah Parsons and Zaire Franklin defensively.
