Arsenal will be limited to spending just £40m before player sales this summer, according to reports.

ChronicleLive claim that the reduced budget is the consequence of sizeable outlays on new additions in past transfer windows, including the likes of Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres last summer. They will also need to an additional £45m if they want to keep Piero Hincapie on a permanent basis.
It means that interest in Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has cooled as well, despite the Gunners having been perceived as favourites for the Italian’s signature.
The Gunners were reportedly contacted by representatives of the player before the transfer deadline in January, but no deal materialised.
Arsenal will need to sell before they buy
Captain Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli are listed among the potential outgoings this summer, as the London club look to balance the books in order to keep within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
Other names could also be offloaded under the right circumstances, with academy players particularly vulnerable as they would go down as pure profit on the balance sheet.
Tonali’s asking price is way too high
ChronicleLive report that Newcastle have slapped an asking price in excess of £100m on the 25-year-old, and that valuation is likely to be the main reason that he hasn’t been included on Arsenal’s list of targets ahead of the summer.
From the looks of things, Mikel Arteta’s side will be focusing on recruiting free agents. Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka was mentioned as an option in January but he could still make the switch to the Emirates at the end of the season. Get a stadium tour with Virgin Experience Days here.
Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt is also reportedly another name under consideration as sporting director Andrea Berta looks to bring in reinforcements on the cheap.
