The Bills lost free agent guard David Edwards on Monday, as he signed a four-year deal worth $61 million with the New Orleans Saints. With Edwards leaving Buffalo, the Bills now need to find a veteran free agent to fill his spot, and Bills On SI writer Alex Brasky has a specific player in mind.

Brasky named four players the Bills could still sign who could start for Buffalo andnamed free agent guard Wyatt Teller as an option.

Could Teller Be a Fit For The Bills

“The Bills drafted Wyatt Teller during Brandon Beane’s first season as general manager in 2018. But Buffalo quickly cut bait on him before the now-eight-year veteran moved to Cleveland, where he enjoyed a fruitful seven-year career with the Browns,” Brasky wrote on Wednesday.

“The 31-year-old’s run in Cleveland ended somewhat abruptly, with a calf injury leading to his placement on Injured Reserve, ending his season. The Bills lost former starting left guard David Edwards, who agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints, leaving a gaping hole along the Bills’ starting offensive line, which they could fill with Teller, who should be a reasonably priced free agent.”

Teller has been in the NFL for eight seasons and got off to a strong start, earning Pro Bowl selections from 2021 to 2023. However, his performance has declined over the past two seasons, which could be attributed to the overall struggles of the Browns offensive line as they began to falter.

Teller Said Goodbye to the Browns

Pro Football Focus ranked Teller as the 40th guard out of 81 this past season, awarding him a run blocking grade of 36th and a pass blocking grade of 65th.

The Browns have decided not to bring Teller back, as he posted a farewell message on social media on Feb. 18,saying goodbye to the city and its fans.

“I wish things were different and this is hard to put into words,” he wrote. “When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never could have imagined how much this city would mean to me,” Teller wrote, via Cleveland.com’s Dan Labbe. “Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me that changed the trajectory of my life forever.”

Teller was previously signed with the Browns on a four-year deal worth $56 million. However, the Bills will likely be able to acquire him for much less, as Spotrac recentlyassessed his market value at around $10 million per season. This could lead to a contract in the neighborhood of three years and $30 million.

The Bills would do well to consider bringing Teller back, as he played for them for a season before being traded to the Browns. He’s also a good friend of Josh Allen, which could strengthen team chemistry.

Teller could also bring his playoff experience to Buffalo, having previously appeared in the postseason with the Browns. He played in 2020 and had another chance in 2023, winning just one game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the winter of 2021.
