Sims was a player that the Packers had their eyes on for a long time, as he was brought in as a pre-draft visitor for Green Bay in the 2023 class. While he originally signed with the Minnesota Vikings, he was claimed by the Packers at the cutdown deadline of his rookie season, when he didn’t make the Vikings’ final roster.
From 2023 to 2025, Sims played in 37 games for Green Bay, mostly in a blocking and special teams role. In total, he played 414 offensive snaps and 187 special teams reps for the green and gold. In late August, the Packers waived Sims, hoping that he would clear waivers and rejoin the team on the practice squad. Instead, he was claimed by the Vikings, where he remained on the roster for the rest of the 2025 season.
Shortly after Sims was let go, the Packers suffered injuries at the tight end position, including a torn ACL from Tucker Kraft and a torn Achilles from John FitzPatrick, which led to Josh Whyle, who has now been re-signed by the club, to make the jump from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Anderson and Sims now join Malik Willis and safety Omar Brown as former Packers players to make their way down south this offseason.
