Could Maxx Crosby come to the Lions?

There was a stunning development in the National Football League on Tuesday, as defensive end Maxx Crosby’s trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens was rescinded by Baltimore owing to “medical concerns that arose during a physical”.

The move was made all the more surprising considering that Crosby had recently posted a video of himself on Instagram while in Baltimore overlooking M&T Stadium.

Crosby underwent surgery to repair a meniscus injury, which he played through for the majority of the 2025 NFL season; he missed the final two games.

But now, a quote from Crosby from last year is fueling speculation that he could ultimately end up with the Detroit Lions, who have already lost multiple players to free agency.

Could The Detroit Lions Land Maxx Crosby?

Crosby already has an affinity for Detroit, considering that he hails from Lapeer and played college football at Eastern Michigan University, about 35 minutes outside of downtown.

Following Detroit’s 15-2 record in the 2024 NFL season, Crosby joked that he was jealous of the Lions’s success

“It kind of bothers me because I had to wait my whole childhood for them to be good. And now that I’m in the league, they’re Super Bowl contenders,” Crosby said during a taping of Good Morning Football. “Selfishly, I’m kind of mad at them.”

Crosby then made it clear that he admires what head coach Dan Campbell and the rest of the Lions were able to accomplish.

“In all realness, seeing what Dan Campbell has built, hearing what those guys say about him … everybody says the same thing. They’re like, ‘I hope one day you just get to be able to be in that locker room with Coach Campbell.’ They said he’ll literally die for his players. He lives by that. The things you see in the locker room postgame, the interviews and everything, that’s who he is.

“It’s incredible to see. For the city of Detroit—my mom was born and raised in Detroit, my aunts and uncles, I grew up in Michigan right down the street—it’s incredible to see for the city. It’s been some long years, and the Lions haven’t won for a long time.”

Maxx Crosby Won’t Play For The Ravens

According to NFL Insider Albert Breer, the reason for the trade being rescinded was a negative result of Crosby’s physical.

“My understanding is that the Ravens were not comfortable with the condition of Crosby’s knee—in which he had a meniscus repair—after Tuesday’s physical,” Breer reported. “A football player failing his physical generally isn’t a black-and-white thing. Players are given a score from the doctor, and that score is adjusted based on the level of investment the team must make to acquire the player.”

“Were Crosby coming in, for argument’s sake, for a seventh-round pick, he’d likely have passed the physical, because there would have been less risk than there was with the Ravens giving up two first-rounders to acquire him. So that’s a moving target, and the Ravens didn’t like what they saw Tuesday.”

Naturally, it was very disappointing for the Ravens, who badly wanted him.

“I had already begun discussions with John Spytek, those discussions continued, we were really thinking that we were getting some traction,” said Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta. “We did. As part of the normal trade process, there were a lot of different parts with the trade process, we’ve done a lot of trades. One of the key things is you bring a player in and try to get as much information as you can. We were not able to complete the process of trading for the player, based on our assessment of the situation.”

“I’ve got a responsibility to the Ravens,” DeCosta continued. “I understand how people from afar would feel that way, but nobody’s more upset about this than me. Gutted by it, actually, a big regret for me.”
