The Denver Broncos were expected to officially release linebacker Dre Greenlaw when the NFL’s new league year began Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. However, that transaction has not yet appeared on the league’s official wire.
Earlier this week, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the Broncos planned to release Greenlaw as part of their offseason roster moves. Because the report came during the legal tampering period, the move could not become official until the new league year opened.
Now that the league year has begun, many expected the transaction to process immediately. Hours after the deadline passed, however, Greenlaw still had not been officially released.

Broncos’ Dre Greenlaw Situation Raises Questions
The delay has raised some questions around the league.
In many cases, roster moves simply come down to administrative timing. Still, the situation has sparked speculation among some fans about whether Denver could be exploring other options.
One possibility floated online is whether Greenlaw could be included in a potential trade package rather than being released. There has been no reporting to confirm that scenario, and it could simply be a paperwork delay.
For now, though, the move still has not appeared on the transaction wire.
Broncos Still Haven’t Made Free Agent Move
The Greenlaw situation comes as the Broncos have taken a very quiet approach to free agency.
According to DNVR reporter Zac Stevens, Denver is one of only two teams in the NFL that has not signed an outside free agent since the league year opened.

The Broncos and Seahawks are the only two teams to not have yet signed an outside free agent.
The other is the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
That lack of activity stands out across the league. Many other top teams have already moved aggressively during the opening wave of free agency.
For the Broncos, the quiet start may simply reflect a deliberate strategy. The front office could still be evaluating the roster and waiting for the market to settle.
They could also be focusing on continuity and believe their current roster has what it takes after missing the Super Bowl by three points in a game without Bo Nix.
Still, the lack of free agency activity has drawn criticism from Broncos analysts and fans. The unresolved Greenlaw situation adds another layer of intrigue to Denver’s offseason plans.
Whether the delay proves meaningful or not, it has created an unexpected storyline to watch early in the new league year.
