The Golden State Warriors continue to take a cautious approach with franchise superstar Stephen Curry as he recovers from a lingering right knee injury, with coach Steve Kerr offering a candid look at the star guard’s mindset following the team’s latest medical update.
Golden State announced Wednesday that Curry continues to make progress after being re-evaluated for patellofemoral pain syndrome and a bone bruise in his right knee, injuries that have sidelined him for the past 15 games.
The Warriors said Curry has recently resumed individual on-court workouts, which will continue to intensify as he builds toward a potential return. However, the team also confirmed he will be re-evaluated again in 10 days, reinforcing that the recovery process remains gradual.
Curry last played on January 30 against the Detroit Pistons and still leads the Warriors in scoring this season with 27.2 points per game.
Steve Kerr Says Stephen Curry ‘Frustrated’ by Length of Injury
A few hours after the Warriors released their official update, Kerr provided additional context on Curry’s recovery and mental state.
“It’s always great to have Steph, you know, on the sidelines,” Kerr said on 95.7 The Game. “He just has a great way about him and gives guys advice and gives us confidence. Last night was great because we’ve been on the road, obviously, for three games without him. So nice to have him back.”
While Curry has remained engaged with the team during his absence, Kerr acknowledged the superstar guard is eager to return.

“You know, as far as our conversations, it’s just very matter-of-fact,” Kerr said. “Where he’s frustrated, he wants to be out there for his guys, and that’s obviously been an injury that’s lasted a lot longer than anyone thought it would, and he’s dying to be out there.”
Curry’s absence has stretched longer than initially expected, forcing Golden State to adjust its rotation and offensive approach without the centerpiece of its system.
Warriors Struggling Without Curry
The Warriors have struggled to maintain momentum during Curry’s absence.
Since he went down with the knee injury, Golden State has posted a 5–10 record, slipping below .500 and losing ground in the crowded Western Conference playoff race.
Without Curry’s gravity as a shooter and playmaker, the Warriors’ offense has lacked its usual spacing and rhythm, putting added pressure on the rest of the roster to generate scoring.
Warriors Taking Methodical Approach to Curry’s Return
Golden State’s medical staff, led by director of sports medicine and performance Rick Celebrini, is overseeing Curry’s gradual progression back to basketball activities.
Although Curry has begun shooting and working out on the court, Kerr emphasized that he has not yet returned to full team practices.
“Well, he hasn’t practiced yet,” Kerr said. “He’s getting shots up. But he’s not in a place yet where we’re saying he’s going to be practicing anytime in the next few days.”
The Warriors plan to continue following the advice of their medical staff before advancing Curry to the next stage of his recovery.
“It’s pretty methodical, as you guys know,” Kerr said. “Rick is as good as they come, and he’s going to be very cautious and make sure Steph gets the right build-up and we go from there.”
Curry Expected to Miss Key Stretch of Games
Curry’s extended timeline means he will likely miss several upcoming games while continuing his rehabilitation.
Golden State’s next five games include hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 13, followed by a four-game road trip against the New York Knicks on March 15 at Madison Square Garden, the Washington Wizards on March 16, the Boston Celtics on March 18, and the Detroit Pistons on March 20.
Those games could push Curry’s absence to around 20 games before the Warriors receive another update on his availability.
The timeline is becoming increasingly significant for the Golden State’s playoff hopes. The Warriors have 17 games remaining in the regular season, meaning that if Curry is cleared shortly after the upcoming five-game stretch, he would have only about 12 games to ramp up before the postseason.
For now, Golden State will continue monitoring Curry’s recovery day by day while awaiting his next evaluation in 10 days — a key checkpoint that could determine when the team’s superstar guard can finally return to the court.
