Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, surprise KC Current fans before the 2026 NWSL season.
The Kansas City Chiefs made a flurry of moves to reshape the roster ahead of the new league year.
After restructuring quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ contract, freeing up $43.6 million in cap space, notable additions include signing former Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III to a three-year, $43.05 million deal. Travis Kelce also made his return official, signing a one-year, $12 million deal with a max value of $15 million.
While Mahomes cheered on Kansas City’s newest players and contract extensions on social media, he’s also keeping an eye on the KC Current as they reshape their roster.

The KC Current Traded for Penelope Hocking 3 Days Before the 2026 Season Opener
The Current surprised fans by trading for forward Penelope Hocking on March 11.
They “sent $350,000 in intra-league transfer funds in exchange for Hocking, who was Bay FC’s leading goal scorer last year,” the Current announced. “She will be available for selection for the NWSL season opener on March 14.”
“We are very excited to welcome Penelope to Kansas City,” general manager Ryan Dell said. “Penelope’s aptitude for scoring goals from anywhere on the field, combined with her ability to create chances for those around her, will only strengthen our attack. Above all, she is a great person and teammate who will positively impact our club on and off the pitch.”
The No. 7 overall pick from the 2023 NWSL Draft is pumped to join KC. “I’m extremely excited to be joining the Kansas City Current,” said Hocking. “This is a club with high expectations and high standards, and I’m excited to bring my energy, compete every day, and help the team win trophies.”
Hocking’s addition comes after the Current made waves with two $1 million blockbuster moves last month.
