The Hull City dressing room was awash with joy on Tuesday night after their impressive 2-1 win at play-off rivals Wrexham, according to goalscorer Lewis Koumas.

City were full value for maximum points at the Racecourse as they completed a league double over the Red Dragons for the first time in 77 years.

Joe Gelhardt's sumptuous free-kick five minutes before the break, followed by Koumas' deft header just after the hour mark sealed a deserved victory for City, though the final stages were nervy after Nathan Broadhead halved the deficit with 14 minutes left.

The victory was their 10th on the road this season and ended a run of successive defeats against teams above them in the table over the past few days.

"It's a big win and a good three points on the road," Koumas told Hull Live as attention turns quickly to Saturday's trip to The Hawthorns.

Koumas almost had himself an assist when his rampaging run and pass played in Liam Millar, who saw his goalbound shot well saved by Arthur Okonkwo. From the resulting corner, the tables were turned with Millar's delightful cross headed in by Koumas, and that goal proved crucial.

He added; "It was an unfortunate miss from Liam. Good save by the keeper, but to get the chance, straight after and then to score, it's a good feeling. It (the goal) did (mean a lot), to be fair, it's an important win for us, and I'm just happy with the three points.

"Them scoring with 15 minutes to go obviously isn't nice, and then afterwards they're just looking to put crosses and anything they can into the box. It was a bit of pressure, but we handled it well and saw it out.

"The lads (inside the dressing room) are just buzzing with the graft and the shift from everyone. We're just happy to get the win, and now it's on to Saturday."

City probably haven't had the points their displays against Ipswich Town and Millwall deserved, but that certainly changed in Koumas' homeland, and he believes his teammates can take confidence into Saturday's game against the struggling Baggies.

"Yeah, that's football. We had a lot of chances to put the game to bed in the first half against Millwall, but, unfortunately, that wasn't the case, so to come and bounce back and get the win is just good for us all," he added. "We got a lot of confidence from that, and yeah, we're just looking to go again Saturday."
