Arne Slot's Liverpool future could and should be decided this week - opinion

Next up for Liverpool is a clash with relegation-threatened Tottenham on Sunday, where anything but three points is unacceptable for Arne Slot.

Spurs have been struggling even more since Thomas Frank’s departure and were most recently dismantled by Atletico Madrid in their Round of 16 first leg.

Slot’s Liverpool future has been questioned once again after another 90 minutes of uninspired football in Istanbul.

Ok, let’s all agree Slot’s done, who you want to see in the dugout next?

Calls for his dismissal have raged on all season, and while it can be blown out of proportion at times, even the stoutest of ‘Slot inners’ will find it difficult to excuse anything but a win against a team that has lost every game since February 1st.

Arne Slot should actually be sacked if Liverpool fail to beat Spurs

I’m one of those who has tried to stick by the Dutchman through the many low points of this season.

It’s as if the team are trying to change my mind with some of these recent performances.

But my limit would be dropping Premier League points this weekend. With nine games to play and a four-horse race for Champions League qualification, every result could be decisive.

Igor Tudor will be in charge for Spurs despite losing every game he has been in charge of in North London. For him to break that rut at Anfield would be the final straw for this fan.

Liverpool don’t lose to Spurs

Ok, Liverpool mostly don’t lose to Spurs. In their last 30 meetings, the Lilywhites have come out on top just three times.

They haven’t won at Anfield since 2011.

And this is the worst they have been in that time, currently just one point adrift of the relegation zone.

It’s not like losing is an impossible outcome, but it would be indicative of the fact that Liverpool aren’t consistent enough to challenge for the top five, the Champions League or the FA Cup.

Slot is backing Liverpool for a top-four finish. Where do you think the Reds will end 25/26?

In that scenario, the excuses for giving Slot the rest of the season would be near-impossible to justify.

Luckily, the Reds are going to make light work of their fallen ‘Big Six’ foe.
