Your latest dose of transfer rumours as we enter mid-March of the football calendar
We are approaching the final international break of the domestic season and with that, it means that the run-in of the Premier League campaign is becoming ever closer.
With much yet to be decided in the top flight, clubs from up and down the country are beginning their transfer planning for the summer while continuing to chase their goals on the pitch come May.
The race for the Champions League places is one which is far from decided. With top two Arsenal and Manchester City embroiled in a title race, there looks set to be a four-horse race for what is likely to be the final three of five spots in Europe’s premier club competition given to English clubs.
One of the clubs involved are Liverpool and it is at Anfield where we begin our latest dose of transfer rumours, where the transfer future of one important player is yet to be decided and a huge battle might be set to ensue…
Liverpool star targeted by trio of European giants
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate sees his Reds deal expire at the end of the season and while contract talks continue, Caught Offside report that a transfer battle across Europe is brewing for the 26-year-old Frenchman.
Reporting states that Real Madrid have placed Konate ‘high on their shortlist’, while Inter Milan are thought to be exploring a move and PSG are also monitoring the situation closely. Interestingly, the report suggests that Paris is the least likely destination of the trio for Konate, who would ‘favour a move elsewhere’, despite the French capital being the city of his birth.
Talks been Liverpool and the player have reportedly ‘stalled’ despite the Reds’ most lucrative attempts to date to tie him down to a new deal, leading to alarm bells around Anfield due to the club’s limited defensive options at present.
The 3AM verdict: The future of Konate is certainly one which will be interesting to watch unfold this summer. Earlier in the autumn it appeared certain that he would leave after a series of shaky displays, but his performance levels have largely improved and staying at Anfield by signing a new deal still appears the most likely outcome at present.
The trio of clubs mentioned would undoubtedly be attractive options, but we will await further corroboration over the player’s desire for his future ahead of the end of the season.
Tottenham captain could leave this summer - Fabrizio Romano
There appears to be a theme on this latest set of transfer rumours, of players who might depart the Premier League rather than the other way around.
Another player who could be on the move this summer is Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero, who is reportedly keen to move on at the end of the campaign as per Fabrizio Romano on X.
Romano wrote: “Cuti Romero has serious chances to leave Tottenham in the summer. Top clubs have started to call as exit is a possibility despite new deal signed last summer. Romero could be open to a sale, as Telegraph and TyC Sports reported.”
The 3AM verdict: We expect that this is likely to happen this summer, no matter whether Tottenham stay up this season. The player has openly spoken about his disillusionment with the club’s transfer policy and will feel that he deserves better at this prime stage of his career – though, of course, he is not exempt from his share of the blame at Spurs this term.
Interested parties are not mentioned by Romano butCaught Offside speculate that long-term suitors Atletico Madrid remain in the mix, while Real Madrid and Manchester United are also monitoring the situation with a fee of around £60m involved. While we doubt the credibility of such a transfer fee, Romero’s four-year deal signed last summer gives Spurs some entitlement to demand good money. We deem it unlikely that he will be at the club come the start of next season, regardless.
