News regarding Liverpool’s manager plans for the summer emerged this week, with it looking likely that Arne Slot is sticking around.
Reliable journalist David Ornstein provided a Slot future update, in which he said that the club are ‘steadfastly behind’ the Dutchman, but perhaps more importantly, stated that ‘there’s not people on the market that they think better suit’ the 47-year-old.
That, of course, includes former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has been linked a lot this season and whose sides have outscored and picked up more points than the current Reds coach.

Xabi Alonso has more goals scored and average points than Arne Slot
After spells with Real Madrid Youth and Real Sociedad B, Alonso took his first senior role in the dugout on October 5, 2022.
During his 962 days in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, he firmly cemented himself as one of the top young managers in world football.
En route to winning the Bundesliga title ahead of Bayern Munich, he secured 89 wins, 32 draws and lost 19 times.
Alonso’s Leverkusen averaged 2.25 goals per game, while conceding 1.11 and securing 2.14 points per game.

After dominating in Germany, he joined Real Madrid ahead of 2025/26, but was quickly moved on in January 2026.
While his spell with Los Blancos was ill-fated, he still won 24, drew four and lost six, with his averages at both clubs making for impressive reading:

Slot, who began his senior managerial career back in 2019 with AZ Alkmaar, has taken charge of more games and boasts a similarly impressive record.

In truth, there isn’t that much difference between the two coaches.
Alonso’s sides have scored more goals, Slot has a better average defensive record, but the former Reds ace is ahead on points per game.
But perhaps the reason Liverpool fans want a new manager right now is not because of results, but rather due to feeling their team has lost any form of style and is, for the most part, playing uninspiring football.
