Liverpool could be set for significant Yan Diomande discount after new development this week - opinion

Yan Diomande has been a Liverpool target for a while, and his price tag will depend on whether or not RB Leipzig secure Champions League football for the 2026/27 season.

Previously, there were claims that the German outfit have put a €100m valuation (around £87m) on Diomande amid interest from the Reds and more.

However, it was then reported that Leipzig could accept less for Diomande if they don’t qualify for Europe’s premier competition, which they are no longer on course to do after the UEFA coefficient table was updated this week.

Will Xabi Alonso be Liverpool manager by the start of the 2026/27 season?

If no, where will he be instead?

RB Leipzig no longer in a Champions League place

It was a nightmare couple of days for England, with every Premier League side, including Liverpool, failing to win.

Because of the huge gap, however, they are still on course to finish top of the table, which means there will once again be five Champions League places up for grabs.

However, after Real Madrid beat Manchester City, Atletico Madrid hammered Tottenham Hotspur and FC Barcelona drew with Newcastle United, Spain have now moved up into the second and final spot that grants a league an extra European place.

Posistion Country Teams competing Points Average

1 England 9/9 202.625 22.513

2 Spain 6/8 144.250 18.031

3 Germany 5/7 126.000 18.000

4 Italy 4/7 121.500 17.357

5 Portugal 3/5 83.000 16.600

Prior to this week, Germany had that spot, which meant Leipzig were on track for Champions League qualification.

However, they are currently sat fifth in the Bundesliga, which, as things stand, means they will be playing in the Europa League next term.

In turn, Liverpool could be set to land Diomande for less than the reported price tag this coming summer.

Yan Diomande has become Liverpool’s obvious winger target after recent blows

Recent reports say that Liverpool have been encouraged to make a Diomande move.

And after being dealt blows from their other targets, the teenager now looks the obvious option.

Despite interest, the Reds are not expected to sign Bradley Barcola or Desire Doue from PSG as the French club have no plans to let either player go in the summer.

Elsewhere, Liverpool ‘dream’ of signing Michael Olise from Bayern Munich, but the Premier League powerhouse are said to view the transfer as ‘unrealistic’.

That means, unless there is an unknown target we have yet to hear about, Diomande is probably going to be the big name we see FSG go for later this year.
