Packers offensive tackle Yosh Nijman could make sense as a trade chip.

The Green Bay Packers said goodbye to offensive lineman Yosuah Nijman two years ago, and on Wednesday he bid farewell to the NFL entirely.

Nijman took to Instagram to announce his retirement from the game of football after seven seasons in the league, the first five of which came in Green Bay.

“After seven incredible years in the NFL, I’ve decided it’s officially time to step away from the game of football,” Nijman wrote. “To the fans in Green Bay and Carolina, thank you for your passion and support. Playing in front of you all was truly special, and I’ll always be grateful for the energy and love you brought every game day.”

“Football has given me so much, but I’m excited for the next chapter of life and the new ways God will use me moving forward,” Nijman continued. “The lessons, memories, and relationships from this game will stay with me forever.”

Nijman joined the Packers organization out of Virginia Tech as an undrafted rookie in 2019. By 2020, he was a special teams contributor and appeared in all 16 games that season.

He elevated himself into a rotational role on the offensive line for the Packers by 2021, playing 590 offensive snaps that year and a career-high 756 offensive snaps the season after, while also playing some special teams during both campaigns. He started 21 games as an offensive tackle on the Green Bay front across that span.

Nijman’s role in Green Bay’s offense decreased in 2023, and he left the team the following offseason for a two-year deal worth $8 million total from the Carolina Panthers. He appeared in 32 of 34 regular-season contests for Carolina over his two seasons there, earning seven total starts.

Several NFL Teams, Including Panthers, Were Interested in Signing Yosh Nijman in Free Agency

Nijman leaves the game just weeks after turning 30. Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk contended that Nijman did so with football left in him, as he could have found a landing spot back with the Panthers or elsewhere in free agency.

“The 30-year-old Nijman started four games last season and the Panthers were believed to want him back, and he would have had options elsewhere as well,” Smith wrote on Thursday, March 12.

Teams around the league potentially still in the market for offensive tackle depth include the Cleveland Browns, who are rebuilding their entire offensive line from scratch this offseason under a new head coach in Todd Monken, and the Detroit Lions after they released starting left tackle Taylor Decker and signed longtime reserve (and only sometimes starter) Larry Borom.

Nijman started games at both left tackle and right tackle during his time in Green Bay.

Spotrac projected Nijman’s market value at $1 million on a new one-year deal in 2026. After entering the league as an undrafted player, Nijman earned nearly $14 million across his seven professional seasons.
