Mark Cuban admitted that passing on Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2013 and hiring former GM Nico Harrison, who later traded Luka Doncic, were his biggest mistakes as Dallas Mavericks owner.
Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has openly admitted that his biggest mistake as the team's majority owner was passing on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Giannis was selected 15th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks, while the Mavericks chose Kelly Olynyk with the 13th pick. At the time, Giannis was probably seen as a raw prospect.
"Tyrese Maxey was a big miss for us recently. Greek Freak was probably the biggest," Cuban said on The Adam Friedland Show.
The executive also admitted that he was responsible for hiring former Mavs GM Nico Harrison in 2021, who was fired after orchestrating the trade of franchise star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025.
"Yeah [I regret hiring him]," Cuban said. "In hindsight now, it was a mistake, but whatever."
The Mavericks have since traded Anthony Davis to Washington ahead of this year's deadline and are now in rebuild mode around Cooper Flagg.
