Newcastle United could take advantage of a growing goalkeeper crisis at Chelsea ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Stamford Bridge.

While Eddie Howe's side will head to West London on Saturday on the back of a positive performance in their 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League, Chelsea head into the clash after capitulating in Paris.

With the game finely poised at 2-2 at the Parc des Princes, goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen gifted the ball to PSG star Bradley Barcola and Vitinha lifted the ball over the Danish goalkeeper to give the European champions the lead.

A late brace from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put the seal on a 5-2 win and left Chelsea's Champions League hopes in tatters.

Blues manager Liam Rosenior made the big call to drop goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as his first choice goalkeeper, with Jorgensen replacing him during their 4-1 win over Aston Villa earlier this month.

But in just his second game as Chelsea number one, his high profile error has led to doubts over his capability to perform the role and has plunged their goalkeeping department into crisis ahead of Newcastle's visit on Saturday.

"A very disappointing result on an evening where for much of the game we were really happy," Rosenior said after defeat in Paris.

"The last 15 minutes were crazy. That's on me. We need to be better in moments when setbacks and mistakes happen. You need to stay calm in the moment, me included. It's a painful one because for 75 minutes we were in the tie.

"Players make mistakes. Filip is not the first to make mistake. In that moment at 2-2 we're in the ascendency. In the top level it's fine margins.

"The fifth goal was the most painful one. We didn't deal with a basic pattern of play, they scored a fifth and made the tie very difficult."We've shot ourselves in the foot and made this tie very difficult. Even at 4-2, it's not the best result but we're still right in this at nine. The fifth goal, that's the painful one. It's something I really have to solve. We are very close to be an outstanding team."

Newcastle have very little margin for error in the Premier League as they look to secure European qualification next season.

With nine games remaining, Newcastle are four points adrift of Everton in eighth place, which is expected to be enough to secure a Europa Conference League place next season, and five points behind seventh placed Brentford.
