Alexis Mac Allister open to future transfer:“I’d love to”

Real Madrid’s persistent interest in Alexis Mac Allister has become an uncomfortable cloud sitting over Anfield over the last two seasons.

The Spanish giants first began eyeing the Argentine World Cup winner in mid-2024, viewing him as the ideal successor to midfield legends Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

The flirtation intensified throughout 2024 and 2025, with multiple Spanish outlets reporting Madrid’s admiration for the 27-year-old.

Reports emerged that Los Blancos made contact with Liverpool to gauge transfer possibilities, though no formal offers materialized initially. Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, acknowledged the speculation in interviews, noting it was “always nice” when his son was linked with “the biggest clubs in the world,” though he stressed Alexis remained committed to Liverpool.

Mac Allister Snr. also recently denied that contract extension talks are currently underway for the Liverpool midfielder. But while any transfer away from Liverpool does not appear close, the Reds No.10 revealed that he would like to return to Argentina when his time in Europe is over – particularly to play for Argentinos Junior and potentially Boca Juniors:

“I’d love to return to Argentina. But well, I became a dad and you start to prioritize a lot of things and maybe it’s not so selfish to take it only to what I want,” he said as quoted by Planeta Boca Juniors.

“But yes, I would love to return to Argentinos Juniors because my dad and my brothers all grew up there and we are grateful. And then, obviously to Boca at some point.”

Right now, then, the picture around Mac Allister is nuanced rather than alarming. Madrid’s admiration is real enough, but so is Liverpool’s belief that he can be a pillar of their next great midfield. If the club can translate that belief into a contract that properly reflects his status, much of this external noise will quickly fade.
