Alexis Mac Allister admits becoming a father has changed his future plans

Alexis Mac Allister has reflected on his changing priorities since becoming a father, admitting: “Maybe it’s not so selfish to focus solely on what I want.”

Mac Allister and his partner Ailen Cova became parents in September with the birth of their daughter Alaia.

That coincided with a difficult start to the season for the midfielder, who struggled with injury at the end of the previous campaign and throughout the summer.

But he has remained a key player and has played the fifth-most minutes for Liverpool throughout 2025/26, behind only Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch.

Despite his role under Arne Slot the 27-year-old has been touted with a move away, with Real Madrid among those linked.

Now, speaking to streamer La Agusneta as relayed by Planeta Boca Juniors, Mac Allister admitted that becoming a father has changed his plans for the future.

“I became a dad and you start prioritising a lot of things,” he explained, “and maybe it’s not so selfish to only do what I want.”

While that is not to suggest that he is seeking a transfer from Liverpool it certainly casts doubt over his long-term future at Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister Argentina

Mac Allister has already expressed his desire to play in Spain, telling AS in 2024: “It’s a country I like a lot and I’ve visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and the culture, it’s very similar to Argentina.”

And now he revealed he is looking to eventually move back to Argentina, with a view to representing former clubs Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors again.

“I’d love to return to Argentinos Juniors because my dad and my brothers all grew up there and we’re grateful,” he continued.

“And then, obviously, to Boca at some point.”

Liverpool announced a new six-year contract for Ryan Gravenberch last week and are understood to have begun the process of extending **Dominik Szoboszlai**‘s deal.

But speaking during the pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League, Mac Allister revealed that he was yet to enter talks with the club over renewing his terms.

“In terms of me, we are not in contract talks. But I’m not in a rush,” he told reporters at RAMS Park.

Mac Allister’s contract expires on June 30, 2028, having signed a five-year deal upon his £35 million move from Brighton in 2023.
