Ravens releasing $6 million backup could interest Packers, Jets, Chiefs and Raiders

The Baltimore Ravens are parting ways with one of their backup quarterbacks who could draw interest from teams such as the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Ravens are releasing quarterback Cooper Rush, who was in the second year of a $6 million contract.

Rush entered last season as the Ravens' top backup, but he was jumped on the depth chart by Tyler Huntley after struggling in place of an injured Lamar Jackson.

That said, Rush has shown flashes of being a capable backup in the past, and particularly during his days with the Dallas Cowboys.

We would suspect the Packers, Jets, Chiefs and Raiders could give him a look.

The Packers lost Malik Willis in free agency, which leaves them in need of a veteran backup behind Jordan Love.

The Jets traded for Geno Smith to be their starter, but with Justin Fields likely on his way out in New York, Gang Green needs a veteran to compete with Brady Cook.

Kansas City does not have a clear answer on if Patrick Mahomes will be ready by Week 1 after suffering a torn ACL last season and the Chiefs need veteran competition for Chris Oladokun and Jake Haener.

In Las Vegas, the Raiders are preparing to draft Fernando Mendoza and could use a veteran backup behind now that Smith has been traded to the Jets.
