Liverpool need to strengthen again in the summer and these Bosman bargains could add some much-needed leaderhip.

There is a trend in modern football whereby clubs no longer aim for immediate success, instead, they look to build for the long-term and for sustainability.

Where some go wrong, is ignore the importance of experience, and how having those who have been there before, won trophies or dragged their team through difficult spells is just as important. At times this season, Virgil van Dijk has cut a lonely figure in the Liverpool team looking for a bit of help from his teammates. When the Reds sold Luis Diaz and tragically lost Diogo Jota, two players who could pick others up around them were no longer available to Arne Slot.

Liverpool need to address leadership problem

If Liverpool lose Ibrahima Konate, despite his recent mistakes, and Andy Robertson, that will be even more experience walking out the Anfield exit door and they will need to be replaced. They don’t need to be replaced on a like for like basis in terms of position, however, the importance of having centre-halves who know what they are doing and can provide a calming influence can never be understated.

Richard Hughes will likely get the chequebook out again, although, if he utilises the Bosman market wisely, he might not have to spend as much as he is planning to, especially with two positions that he needs to address having two elite-level operators available. Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka has been confirmed as leaving at the end of his contract and the 31-year old could be the perfect foil to Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool should hijack Bosman move for Bundesliga winger

The other is Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, who offers a more direct ball-carrying and running threat than Cody Gakpo whilst still being able to chip in with solid numbers. Even if a Yan Diomande or Bradley Barcola is bought too, Brandt would offer the depth that has been missing this season on too many occasions.

According to TEAMtalk though, Arsenal are already keeping tabs on the Bundesliga pair with one source claiming that: “Goretzka and Brandt are proven quality on free transfers and fit the system and team. Let’s see how it plays out.” Arsenal won’t be the only club looking to secure the services of two players who improve most teams and would certainly be valuable additions to any Champions League squad.

Liverpool have looked short of leadership throughout the season and picking up two Bosman bargains could make the sort of difference that sees them return to the Premier League next season as title contenders.
